AP Prose Testing

Our first real AP essay is almost upon us.  Before you hit the reality of the 40 minute maximum essay, on an excerpt that you have not seen before, I want to make sure that you explore info of what you are up against. After (or while) reading the packet over prose essay testing, please do the following:

  • Create a blog response that identifies a minimum of 6 takeaways or questions from your reading. This means:
    • How should you organize your time?
    • What should you look for?
    • How should you organize an essay?
    • Anything else that you deem important
    • Questions you have
  • This post does not need to be pretty; in fact, bullets are fine.  While some of this first practice is just about the experience, I will expand upon what you identify and clear up any questions you may have. Expect to see a response from me on the blog - not during class time. Check back in to see my answers for all concerns before test morning:)
  • Note from HC:  You should ALWAYS find a quote to use in probably the 2nd sentence of the intro - one that ties directly to the theme of the essay. For example -
    • Sen 1 - set time period or general theme
    • Sen 2 - find a way to work the quote in
    • Sen 3 - thesis
  • Reminder for essay day:
    • 40 minutes - start to finish
    • 20 total points
      • 11 for breathing:) - as long as your breathing is deep and focused
      • AP score out of 9 for the actual content, organization, and sophistication of the essay
