Education and The Human Condition

Education hopes to eradicate ignorance, foster understanding,
and strengthen the human condition.

While most people might not make a strong connection between Education, Kindness, and the Human Condition, they are inextricably linked. Without strong human connections and kindness, we cannot hope to fully educate the populace; without education, we can not  hope to strengthen humanity.

Thomas Friedman’s That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in the World It Invented and How We Can Come Back AND The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century

After exploring Thomas Friedman, looking at world problems, and illuminating the need for understanding and kindness, it is  clear that we need to reevaluate priorities in our lives, in our communities, and in our world. However, if we are to make any progress, we can't pretend that we aren't part of the problem.  While we ARE the Mighty, Mighty Falcons, there are issues that must come to light. If we start small and do what we can here, it will give us perspective as we venture forth into new and uncharted territory, becoming part of the solution.

Here’s your job for the original Post: (15 points)
  1. Identify strengths AND weaknesses that you have personally witnessed in education - you may address parents, teachers, or students. Explain the specifics of what you have seen or what you have done. When identifying weakness, please keep your attack anonymous.  We all know we can do better; don't kick us when we're down. (75-100 words)
  2. Identify a major social, economic, governmental, or environmental problem you see in schools, communities, or the world.  Maybe think about an issue that you could do some research on at a later date. What is the nature of the problem, and why is it so concerning? (75-100 words)
  3. In the final analysis, no real progress can be made until we love one another a little more, spreading kindness and working together as agents of change.  What video or article impacted you the most related to human connection? Why? Do you see the need for this shift to greater understanding? (75-100 words)

Here’s your job for the Peer Response: (5 points)
  1. After you have posted your comment, respond to ONE other student in the class assigned by HC.
  2. Either agree or disagree with any of their findings, always expanding on the WHY, backing it up with your own evidence. You may also add new insight that you thought about as part of our discussions and exploration that you have not yet shared. (75-100 words)

As you write your original post and then your response, please adhere to sophisticated English expectations, paying attention to spelling, elevated diction, punctuation, and syntax (sentence structure).  Also remember respectful and mature dialogue. This is NOT a social networking site where you do whatever you want. This is a place where you are joining an educational discourse community that seeks to collaborate and enlighten.
